  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 small red bell pepper diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 large celery stalk diced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves optional
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 1/4 lbs. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup Chili Sauce I used Heinz
  • 1/2 beer or water
  • 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Hot red pepper sauce to taste
  • 4 large rolls I used ciabatta rolls
  • 3 tbsp minced scallion greens optional

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large skillet. Add the onion, bell pepper, garlic, celery, thyme, salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender but not browned, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef and cooked until browned.
  • Add the chili sauce, beer, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper sauce.
  • Simmer partially covered for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, halved the rolls if they are not already split. Toast cut side up under a broiler.
  • When done, sprinkle the Sloppy Joe mixture with scallion greens.
  • Spoon mixture onto the bottom halves of the rolls and cover with the tops.
  • ¡Que aproveche!
