Ingredients
1tbspvegetable oil
1small oniondiced
1small red bell pepperdiced
4clovesgarlicminced
1large celery stalkdiced
1tspfresh thyme leavesoptional
Salt and Pepper
1 1/4lbs.ground beef
1/2cupChili SauceI used Heinz
1/2beer or water
3tbspWorcestershire sauce
Hot red pepper sauce to taste
4large rollsI used ciabatta rolls
3tbspminced scallion greensoptional
Instructions
Heat oil in a large skillet. Add the onion, bell pepper, garlic, celery, thyme, salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables are tender but not browned, about 10 minutes.
Add the ground beef and cooked until browned.
Add the chili sauce, beer, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper sauce.
Simmer partially covered for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, halved the rolls if they are not already split. Toast cut side up under a broiler.
When done, sprinkle the Sloppy Joe mixture with scallion greens.
Spoon mixture onto the bottom halves of the rolls and cover with the tops.
