Ingredients

  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tbsp butter at room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 tsp onion powder optional

Instructions

  • Mix all the ingredients together and knead to make a soft, smooth dough. The dough is ready when it springs back after pressing it with your thumb.
  • Cover the dough, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it's nearly doubled in bulk.
  • Gently deflate the dough, and divide it into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball then flatten with the palm of your hand.
  • Place the buns on a lightly greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise for about an hour, until noticeably puffy.
  • Bake the buns in a preheated 375°F oven for 12 minutes or until golden.
  • Cool the buns on a rack.

Notes

Most of prep time is waiting for the dough to rise.
