Italian comfort food ~ Ragú alla Bolognese is the perfect meal for family gatherings.

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, diced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • ½ cup of water (1 cup of water if you are not using the ½ cup of wine)
  • Salt and pepper
  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a pan and add the onion.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat until onion is just starting to turn brown.
  3. Add the celery and carrot and cover and cook, stirring occasionally until just starting to brown.
  4. Stir in the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Turn up the heat to medium and add ground beef and brown.
  6. Stir in the tomato paste and cook an additional minute.
  7. Stir in white wine and water, and season with salt and pepper.
  8. Turn the heat to low and cover and cook for 1 ½ hours.
  9. (Add water ½ cup at a time if the sauce seems to be drying out. Meat should be covered with sauce.)
  10. Serve over tagliatelle.
